A quiet morning as we cruise into Warzburg. The scenery this morning as we cruise along is spectacular. We have an early lunch as tours today start at noon. We are off to Rothenburg a medieval town and it is a 60 min bus ride from where we are berthed. It is a lovely drive through the hills and small villages. Rothenberg is a walled town that has retained its history and character. When we arrive we hear that Hawthorn is 17 points in front at ¾ time – Ross is nervous. Later we hear that Collingwood is 3 points in front and hangs on to win. Ross is going to shout tonight! We have a lovely day in Rothenburg and our bus takes the autobahn back to our ship. After dinner we have a glass blowing demonstration on board. Very high quality and beautiful work. Where we stop tomorrow at Wertheim is the glassblowers shop which the girls will be visiting. He also told us of his escape from east Germany with his family when he was 5 years old.

On our bus trip to Rothenberg we were given a lot of info and laughs from our guide. We travelled through rolling green hills and pastures dotted with wind farms and livestock.
This is where our guide regaled us with the stories of the cheeseheads who travelled in Winnebagos (sometimes in packs), parking alongside the rivers in towns and filling campsites (and clogging up the roads - get it: ‘clogging’)
We arrived at Rothenberg to find a little gate letting us into the walled site that expanded as we ventured further. The town is beautifully preserved, with modern shops sitting inside the medieval buildings. After our tour we walked the streets, saw the garrisons where large grotesques would pour tar out of the open mouths. Saw a shop called “Ross and John”. Had a coffee in a coffee shop.
Watched the town hall clock with the figures emerging in the windows.
Hated the fact I didn’t bring my credit card as the shops had lots of beautiful leather wear and shoes.
Back on the bus and our guide gifted us with very potent cherry liqueurs.
Sailed to Wertheim during dinner, had a glass blowing demo after dinner.
The glass blower was very informative and even said he had a stockpile of Fraser Island sand, which he said was the purest sand he had found, and when his stock ran out he would retire. Fraser Island had stopped the export of the sand many years earlier. He said the pure sand gave an illustrious and clear quality to the glass. We will be visiting his shop in Wertheim tomorrow.
