Day 3 Wednesday
14 Sept Prague to Budapest 26 degrees
Up early for a 8 am departure to
Budapest. First stop after 2 hours of driving where we spend the last of our
czech crowns. Karen has a 1000 note and she buys rolls for everyone and
chocolates. We stop at 12.30 for lunch in Bratislava Slovakia. Across from the
way stop we can see a wind farm which is in Austria. After lunch our next stop is
the Scenic Pearl. We arrive at the Pearl at 4 pm. The temp is 30 degrees in
Budapest and it is expected to be warm for the next couple of days. Ann
receives a rose as we are taken to our cabin. Our cabin stewardess explains the
details. It is better than we expected. It is one of their latest ships and
everything feels new. While the cabins are compact, they are well laid out and
well equipped. Dinner is early at 5 pm and the food is fantastic as is the wine
service. The glass is barely empty when it is quickly refilled .We get an
introduction talk and then entertained by Hungarian folk dancing and music.
Afterwards we have a short night cruise viewing the city lights. Our cruise
director is Yvonne. A fantastic start.

Left Prague early, with Petr accompanying us in the bus.
Watched a Djvorak documentary on the bus, then an episode of the Nanny!
Petr was answering a range of questions.
Lunch at Bratisalvia truck stop, having a picnic on a table outside.
Bus through the countryside and little cities, gives a different perspective of the countries you transit, compared to life in the big cities.
Passed a few of the old border crossings with the boom gates and border patrol buildings.
Approaching Budapest, we are getting excited in anticipation of our river cruise.
On boarding, we are greeted with roses, smiling faces and very helpful staff.
We can’t believe we are actually doing this!
The cabin is very luxurious with a really comfy bed, L’Occitane range in the bathroom, bathrobes - the works!
After safety briefing, we went to experience our first all-inclusive dining experience which didn’t disappoint.
We still can’t believe we are actually on board and doing this!
Clinking glasses and looking out the window at the buildings lit up and the monument on Buda Hill, here was born the phrase:
“Who would have thought......”
Little did we know this phrase would be regurgitated many more times over the coming years.
The night cruise was spectacular, a beautiful (and cool) clear crisp night highlighted by a full moon.
The Parliament buildings looked majestic and John took an iconic shot of the buildings with the moon.
