Day 8 - Monday 19 Sept Linz – Salzburg – Passau Rain 9 degrees
It rained all night and all day. Very cold and wet which is a shame because the countryside and Salzburg (the birthplace of Mozart) looks very pretty. We did the sound of music – visited the gazebo and sang while it rained. Walked the streets, had a lovely lunch at the world’s first restaurant – built in 803, looked at the shops, Ann bought a Christmas Tree decoration, and went inside the cathedral. All the time it rained and was very cold. When we left around 4 pm I saw a temp sign which said it was 5 degrees. Get back to the Pearl at 6 pm and we are welcomed with hot towels and hot chocolate. Unfortunately there were issues with the plumbing and no hot water was available. Our guide for the day Eva was fantastic, despite the atrocious weather nothing fazed her and she was a laugh a minute.

Woke in Linz to a cold and rainy day, we board the buses heading to Salzburg. It is 9deg and rain. After a little while, we stop at a roadside coffee house overlooking a beautiful lake and hill. It’s a pity it is raining and cloudy as you can see it is really beautiful. After a quick stop and warm-up we continue to Salzburg.Eva the guide is a scream and gives us lots of info and funny stories during our two hour journey.
After we sang “I am 16” in the rain near the gazebo, we head into Salzburg. Rain ceases for a little as we visit the gardens and steps of “doh, rei, me”. Into Salzburg, and it is a beautiful city.
Lunch at the first restaurant was welcoming and warm.
After lunch we strolled the streets, admiring the baroque shop signs (even McD’s was in baroque style)
Saw the littlest house pancaked between two other houses that seemed small to begin with.
Back on bus to meet the Pearl in Passau, where we were given a very warming welcome.
Dinner at Portabellos consisted of 7 courses. Chef Pauli (who was the waiter) made a pasta and cheese dish.
Sitting back after dinner in the lounge and wondering what (other) people are doing.......
